Sketchbook 1

Group of sketchbooks, variable dimensions containing ink and pencil sketches, various dates.

As part of his daily practice, McCafferty used tosketch on drawing pads, diaries, and notebooks. He sketched what he observed in front ofhim, often adding notes, comments, reflections, and lists—almost always dating, and occasionallytiming, each entry. The act of observing andregistering the present moment through quick sketches functioned as a meditative routine, complementing the performative, contemplativeprocess of his paintings.
