McCafferty working on Between in his studio, ca. 1980. Between, the artist’s largest work, is a monumentally scaled piece consisting of three vertical solar burn banners, each 52 × 8 ft. The work was commissioned for the exhibition “The Museum as Site: Sixteen Projects” (1981), curated by Stephanie Barron at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and installed on the east façade of the Ahmanson Gallery.
